Imagine our excitement when an email came through a few weeks ago inviting us to an event to celebrate Small Businesses in the UK at No.10 Downing Street!
It is probably one of the most famous street addresses in the world, where decisions have been made that shape the world that we live in today.
As mentioned in a previous blog we are honoured to have been chosen to be one of the hundred businesses chosen throughout the UK to feature in Small Business Saturday 100, 2017.
We were not permitted to announce our invitation to No.10 ahead of the day due to high security around the event.
A few days prior to the event the Small Business Saturday team got in touch and offered Secret Hamper the opportunity to have a table within NO.10 to showcase some of our hampers. We chose a selection to take in on the day, our most recent addition, The Kiddie Tastic Hamper, The Essex Christmas Hamper and our Christmas Nostalgia/Winter Warmer Hamper. Our friends at Wilkin & Sons even made a special jar of jam to take along.
On arriving at Downing Street we went through tight security screening before being allowed into the iconic street. Seeing the door that close up was something quite special. Once through the famous black door No.10 opened up in to a huge cavernous building. Walking up the staircase was quite a moment, seeing all the past PM’s who have all had a massive impact on the way that we live today.
We were shown around some of the rooms, one which is now used by the PM to great foreign dignitaries, but, was once the bedroom of none other than Sir Winston Churchill. We also got to see Margaret Thatcher’s old study and the G8 meeting table.
Once the event started we met with lots of other of the Small Business 100 and guests, who included Stephen Barclay MP secretary to the Treasury and Baroness Fairhead CBE, Minister of State at the DTI.
This was a huge accolade for us and all the other businesses that attended, to be recognised for our crucial contribution that we all make to the UK economy.
